For Visually Impaired Students
The centre piece of a visually impaired student’s equipment is a Laptop with a big screen. To provide access to on-screen information, a magnification-software is used. ZoomText, with its extensive functionalities has proven successful in the classroom.
Transformer HD is a mobile camera which can be connected to a Laptop via USB. Any printed medium, like school books for example, recorded by this camera, will be shown in magnification on the laptop screen. The camera is small, compact and can also be used as a distance camera by simply rotating it 90° degrees around its axis. In this way an enlarged image of e.g. the black board is displayed on the screen. The camera also can take pictures. This way important information can be studied more closely later on.
For students with a visual impairment who want to use voice output in addition, the text recognition software iRead would be a useful supplement. iRead can recognize printed text supplied either by a scanner or using (iRead Now), a camera, and translate it for the voice output.
